Biography

Kate Deters is an expert in the surgical technique of implanting acoustic and radio transmitters in fish of many sizes and species and has given workshops on surgical methods. She has led several project tasks to determine the most suitable methodology for implantation of the JSATS acoustic transmitters. Her research interests include evaluating the effects of acoustic tagging on the survival and growth of fish, using acoustic transmitters to estimate in-stream survival of run-of-the-river smolts, and assessing the effects of implanted acoustic transmitters on the swimming performance of salmonids.
